Horizon OS Architecture

Horizon OS needed to evolve its operating system architecture for how users would interact with digital content in physical and virtual spaces as Meta's hardware evolved to embrace mixed reality. This work defined fundamental spatial interaction patterns that would scale across future devices and experiences.

Role
Senior Product Designer (IC)
Challenge

Evolve a panel-based operating system from Oculus into a portable spatialized operating system for the future of Quest platform.

Contribution

Led experience architecture and spatial interface designs for world-anchoring behaviors, creating concepts and prototypes to communicate and generate alignment on complex spatial interactions. Developed recommendations for core, novel behaviors of the operating system.

Impact

Alignment on operating system architecture that will shape the long-term direction of Horizon OS. Established design patterns for spatial computing. This work was teased at Meta's 2024 Connect.
