Redesigning the Platform

Pond5, a global marketplace for stock media, had grown organically since 2006 without dedicated design leadership. By 2013, the platform needed a comprehensive visual and functional refresh to compete with both established players and emerging competitors.

Role
Lead Product Designer
Challenge

Transform a technically functional but visually outdated stock media platform into a modern, efficient marketplace that could support global growth while improving workflows for both content creators and internal curation teams.

Contribution

Established organizational design foundations by creating a structured asset management system. Redesigned the curator tools to improve efficiency for the content review team. Developed a comprehensive taxonomy system for media types to accommodate the platform's diverse content offerings. Designer interfaces for new media players for various content types while supporting the transition from Flash to HTML5. Led the complete visual redesign of the site, including homepage and internal pages.

Impact

Significantly improved workflow efficiency for internal curation teams, directly reducing curation time. Enhanced content discoverability and enabled new types of media through improved taxonomy and navigation. Created and documented a modernized visual identity and design system.
